The Neurology West Midlands Training programme

A Description of the Programme
The West Midlands is one of the largest deaneries outside London covering a wide geographical area. 

Neurology trainees rotate through four neurology units in the region - over a 5 year training period:

University Hospital North Staffordshire
University hospital Birmingham QE
City hospital Birmingham  
University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire 

Each of these centres has excellent transport links with major cities in the UK. Trainees spend a minimum of X months at each of these trusts. 

A Wide Training Programme
In addition to excellent inpatient and outpatient general neurology training trainees also gain specialist experience in Multiple Sclerosis, stroke, Motor Neurone Disease, movement disorders, neuro-muscular diseases. 

There are opportunities to attend other specialist clinics including:

  • Neurophysiology
  • Spasticity / Botulinum Clinic
  • Neuro-opthalmology
  • Neurogenetics
  • Paediatric Neurology
  • Dementia

Trainees are also encouraged to spend time during their training in allied specialties such as neuro surgery, Neurorehabilitation, Neuroradiology, Neuro-oncology and to participate in research.
