• The West Midlands has a well-established, high volume major trauma network, with four Major Trauma Centres (three adult and one paediatric). Trainees will be exposed to a varied case mix of urban and rural major trauma, including penetrating injuries, industrial and agricultural accidents and road traffic collisions.
  • High performing PHEM training platforms. In recent CQC inspections, all four of the region’s air ambulances were rated as ‘Outstanding’, and West Midlands Ambulance Service was rated as ‘Good’.
  • The only fully commissioned 24/7 Level 8 Consultant-led MERIT service in the UK
  • State of the art training facilities, such as immersive simulation training rooms and high-fidelity thoracotomy and obstetric mannequins.
  • Multiple examiners in the region for the DipIMC and FIMC examinations, including several former PHEM trainees.
  • Regular monthly regional teaching specifically for PHEM trainees.
  • High levels of clinical supervision, facilitating completion of WBA’s and core interventions such as surgical procedures and RSI.
  • Dedicated, accessible Consultant Educational Supervisors providing tailored PHEM training for the individual trainee.

There are local BASICS organisations operating in the West Midlands region that provide a varied forms of immediate clinical care as well as providing regional educational opportunities such as: regular CPD, fellowship opportunities, regional and national courses etc.
