
The West Midlands has a well-established pre-hospital network with:
- The highest performing NHS Ambulance Foundation Trust in the UK
- Four Major Trauma Centre’s forming the most robust trauma network within the UK
- Three active BASICS schemes
- Two high-performing air ambulance services flying four helicopters across the region
- The only fully commissioned 24/7 RSI capable Consultant-led MERIT service in the UK
- More than 12 examiners in the region for the DipIMC
- A rota with high levels of clinical supervision facilitating completion of WBA’s
- Dedicated, accessible Consultant Educational Supervisors providing tailored PHEM training for the individual trainee
PLEASE NOTE:
- Core specialty training will be at the West Midlands Major Trauma Centre’s and does not currently include the DGH’s.
- No annual leave is permitted during the first four weeks of intensive Phase 1a training.
- PHEM involves travel across the whole West Midlands region for training opportunities.
- Permission needs to be obtained from your core specialty TPD to undertake sub-specialty training: this normally requires six months notice.
- Candidates need to pass an ambulance service fitness test to be eligible to undertake PHEM training.
