Endocrinology deals with normal physiology and pathology of various endocrine organs of the body – predominantly training would revolve around pituitary, thyroid, gonads and parathyroid and bone metabolism
Diabetes would involve training on basic management of diabetes and advanced subspecialty clinics such as diabetes renal, diabetic foot, tranisition clinics, antenatal management of diabetes and endocrine conditions, insulin pump clinics and community diabetes clinics.
The other aspects that would be included (usually as supernumery) are fertility clinics, lipid clinics, paediatric diabetes and endocrine clinics, bariatric surgery clinics and obesity clinics.
The training may also involve rarer clinics like Turner’s syndrome, cystic fibrosis and diabetes, hematological conditions and diabetes, late effects of cancer and chemo/radiotherapy on endocrine function.
Essential Qualifications
MRCP is an essential entry requirement. Some experience in diabetes at Core Medical Training level is helpful but not essential.
