QE is one of the largest hospitals in the country and provides a large range of secondary and tertiary medical specialties. It has the UK’s largest Critical Care facility, the biggest solid organ transplant programme, a busy Level 1 Emergency Department and is a Major Trauma Centre. It is at the forefront of digital healthcare with its own well-regarded IT system supporting all clinical activity.

Trainees undertaking IM training at QE will rotate through several medical specialties including: Acute Medicine, Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Neurology, Geriatric Medicine, Stroke Medicine,  Diabetes & Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Haematology/Oncology, Rheumatology, Dermatology, Renal Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine. Trainees will participate either in the General Internal Medicine rota or specialty rota depending on the individual post.

Trainees should achieve competencies across the IMT curriculum, including procedural skills. Simulation based training for procedures is also available.

QE is a major research centre in partnership with the University of Birmingham. Academic placements are available and participation in research by non-academic trainees is welcomed.
