“During my Psychiatry placement I gained valuable experience in the management of both long-term and acute psychiatric conditions. The placement allowed me to spend time in a variety of settings including inpatient wards, outpatient clinics and home visits. There was also allocated time for weekly supervision with the consultant, where I had time to discuss any pressing issues or cases from the previous week. Throughout the placement each week there were protected teaching sessions which allowed you to gain knowledge into a variety of topics in psychiatry, it also gave time to catch up with peers and to discuss cases. Overall, I feel that the placement provided me with a solid foundation into the management of psychiatric patients and also allowed me to gain certain skills to take forward into my future career as a doctor. “
