Health Education England working across the West Midlands (HEE WM) has responsibility for registering all Birmingham, Warwick & Keele medical school graduates; regardless of where they are currently working. In addition this will include all EEA and non-UK graduate (IMG) F1s with provisional registration currently working in the West Midlands.
Graduates from other UK medical schools working in the West Midlands, GMC registration will be administered by a named person at the Medical School from which they graduated/their home Foundation School. A central list of contacts for each area is available here.
If you already have full GMC registration this process is not applicable to you.
Full registration with a licence to practise is ESSENTIAL before you start your next job as a Foundation Year Two trainee; without it you will not be able to start in your F2 post!
In order to get full registration, you need to have the appropriate documentation completed and this is important.
If you are a UK Graduate the GMC will have contacted you at the end of May with instructions asking you to apply for full registration via your GMC Online account. You will need to enter your GMC reference number and your password, please make sure your account is active.
If you are an international graduate you can apply for full registration now by following the instructions on the GMC website.
You will be asked to confirm the date you wish your full registration to begin, this year the F2 start date is 1 August 2018. Please note acceptance of your registration fee by the GMC does not mean that your application for registration has been granted.
Foundation Year 1 Certificate of Completion (F1CC)
Once an Annual Review of Competence progression (ARCP) outcome 1 has been granted, signed by the panel chair and you, this will auto-generate an F1CC on your Horus ePortfolio.
This should be completed by you and your Foundation School by no later than 29 June 2018 unless exceptional circumstances have been agreed with your Trust’s Foundation Programme Director/Tutor.
Making the application to the GMC via Health Education England working across the West Midlands
For Birmingham, Warwick, Keele, EEA and IMG doctors working in the West Midlands with provisional registration:
Your F1CC certificate, as evidence that you have completed your F1 training, will be released centrally by Health Education England working across the West Midlands once your ARCP outcome has been approved and signed.
If you are working outside Health Education England working across the West Midlands, proof of satisfactory completion will be sent by the Foundation School hosting your F1 training by the named contacts from your Foundation/Medical School..
Once we have received evidence of your F1CC certificate Health Education England working across the West Midlands will verify this by submitting your Certificate of Experience (CoE) online to the GMC, in order to recommend you for full registration with the GMC.
When the GMC receives your CoE, they will match it with your records and your registration will be processed once your online application is verified.
Certificate of Experience must be verified by Health Education England working across the West Midlands by no later than 24 July 2018 in order to guarantee GMC registration in time for the start of your F2 year. You can check the progress of your application online by clicking on ‘My Applications’ on GMC Online. Once your full application has been granted, your status will be updated to read 'registration granted'. Please be aware that registration can be granted from a future date and your full registration will likely start on the day after you have met the requirements of F1.
You will be sent a certificate through the post confirming the start date of your full GMC registration; you can also check your registration status on the List of Registered Medical Practitioners on the GMC website. Your status here will show as either ‘Provisionally registered with a licence to practise’ or ‘Registered with a licence to practise’ once you hold full registration.
