What is Required?

This varies according to centre. Most centres have an overnight haematology on call rota which is non-resident but can involve attending to assess haematology patients acutely admitted or unwell (in-patient and emergency admissions plus urgent advice to other Specialities). There can be considerable liaison work during on call periods.

Haematologists usually are involved in daytime on call rotas for this work as well. There is always a consultant on call as well to provide support.
