Occupational Medicine is the clinical specialty specialising in the diagnosis, management and prevention of disease due to, or exacerbated by, workplace factors.
It is concerned with all aspects of the effects of work on health and health on work.
Essential Qualifications
Entry to Higher Specialist Training requires a minimum of two years of general professional training which should normally be undertaken in a variety of hospital posts at SHO or registrar level, or after satisfactory completion of General Practice Vocational Training, or possession of a Certificate of Equivalent Experience.
A post-graduate qualification, e.g. MRCP, MRCGP, D Occ Med etc, is desirable but not essential.
Personal Qualities
- Ability to occupy senior management positions in industry
- As well as being professionally competent, occupational physicians need good management, leadership, ngotiating, communication and problem solving skills
- Ability to work as part of a team.
