High intensity productivity: How to make the most of short periods of time (online by Rodetal - 2 hours)

This discussion seminar will support resident doctors/ dentists to make the most of short periods of study and research time. Resident doctors/ dentists work together to create a personalised plan of action combining High Intensity Productivity (HIP) with focused goal setting. The session considers the biggest reasons for procrastination. Resident doctors/ dentists learn how to break larger research, teaching, admin and study activities in to manageable and achievable tasks. The session benefits from integrated protected self-development time to trial the tools learned in the session. There is also the opportunity to reflect on how resident doctors/ dentists will implement their learning in order to make the most of future opportunities and avoid procrastination. 

Learning outcomes:

  • Know how to set realistic goals for short periods of research, teaching, admin or study time
  • Identify procrastinating behaviour and how to overcome it
  • Know how to be kind to our future-self through maintaining momentum
  • Know when HIP is best utilised
  • Integrated protected time to trial HIP techniques with immediate demonstratable achievements

Impostor Busters for Returning Resident Doctors/ Dentists (online by Rodetal – 2 hours)

This online seminar will provide resident doctors/ dentists with a toolkit of hints, tips and resources to return to training impostor syndrome free.  The session unpacks what impostor syndrome means for returning resident doctors/ dentists, identify procrastinating type behaviour typical of those suffering with imposter syndrome and supports trainees to feel more confident to beat impostor syndrome at home and at work. Resident doctors/ dentists will be encouraged to reflect and share experiences with others.

Learning outcomes

  • be aware of the common causes of impostor syndrome affecting trainees returning to training
  • know how to recognise personal procrastination and self-sabotaging behaviour caused by impostor syndrome
  • feel ready to banish impostor syndrome to return to training with confidence
