Mr Aralikatti is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre (BMEC) since 2009. His subspecialty interest is Cornea and External Eye Diseases. His surgical expertise includes modern corneal transplant surgery (Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty, Big Bubble Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty), corneal collagen crosslinking for keratoconus and a range of other corneal surgery.
He was the College Tutor for BMEC from October 2011 to July 2014 before taking over as the Ophthalmology Training Programme Director (TPD) for Health Education West Midlands in August 2014.
Mr Aralikatti has a keen interest in teaching and training. He is the West Midlands lead for Ophthalmology Trainee Selected Components (TSC). He supervises the corneal TSC and corneal fellow at BMEC. He is involved in teaching various professionals including Nurse Practitioners, GPs and Optometrists.
He is the University designated medical supervisor for Nurse Practitioners at BMEC. He is also the corneal lead for the West Midlands regional postgraduate teaching.
Many ST4 and ST5 trainees have already emailed me their choice of posts for the next rotation (August 2015 - July 2016). When making such requests, trainees should state the subspecialties they have not covered so far and their choice of future TSC. In your request, it would be helpful to mention more than one post in order of preference - mentioning only one post will NOT increase your chance of getting that post!
While I shall do my best to accommodate your requests, decisions about future placements shall be based on the training needs of ALL trainees and their ARCP outcomes. I hope you understand that it may not be possible to give everyone their preferred choices (particularly if the same post is requested by more than one trainee).
Please feel free to contact me for further information or career advice.
