The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is the main provider of district general hospital services for nearly half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.  Our main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury, which together provide 99% of our activity.  Both hospitals provide a wide range of acute hospital servicessee https://www.sath.nhs.uk/ for full details.

The Postgraduate Medical Education Department provides education, support and guidance to trainees based within the Princess Royal Hospital, Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the Community. Our aim is to ensure trainees have an excellent training experience whilst based with us. We thrive on being accessible and have an open door policy. The Trust regularly has outstanding feedback on National Training surveys.

At any one time the Trust can have up to 250 doctors in training, 48 of those posts are at Foundation Year 1 level and 37 at Foundation Year 2.   We have an active multi-disciplinary Education Centre, a Library and a Clinical Skills Laboratory on both hospital sites (Princess Royal Hospital and Royal Shrewsbury Hospital).  Both Education Centres are used for local teaching across a wide variety of specialities, we also host Regional/National training events, meetings and conferences.   We are one of the only venues in Shropshire to have a 250 seat state of the art lecture theatre in addition to a number of dedicated seminar rooms.  We actively promote and provide access to video conferencing facilities to help reduce travel from hospital site to site.

Simulation training is provided and we have access to an extremely dedicated faculty who are keen to promote multi professional working.  The Trust has recently been successful in securing a bid to cover the cost of an additional 2 state of the art SimMan 4G mannequins.   Simulation is used by a number of specialities to compliment in-house teaching programmes.  All Foundation trainees will be required to attend at least 1 day of simulation training during their FY1 / FY2 year.
