A Career in Haematology
As a result of this dual role haematologists often take an active part in every stage of the patients assessment from initial clinic visit, to laboratory assessment/diagnosis and finally to treatment.

The specialty is developing rapidly with respect to therapeutic advances and lends itself to research.

Further Areas of Specialisation
Within the specialty of Haematology there is the opportunity to further specialise in a wide variety of clinical and laboratory areas (e.g. haemogloginopathies, haemostasis and thrombosis, transfusion medicine, malignant haematology etc.).

Recent developments in the way the NHS tackles cancer has opened new opportunities for Haematologists and the specialty is currently expanding.
