Twice yearly FCEM preparation courses are held at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. The course involves a full mock OSCE, pre-course mock written examination and critical appraisal paper. Each of these are marked by EM physicians using standardised marking schedules and feedback is given on exam technique, as well as individual areas for knowledge and skills improvement. Management and Clinical Topic Review (CTR) vivas are conducted with instant feedback given. Hints and tips are provided by trainees and new Consultants who have recently completed the FCEM and there are opportunities to ask questions and clarify knowledge on clinical and management topics.

This course is popular with West Midlands trainees and those from outside the region, so you are advised to book a place early. Please contact the course co-ordinator Louise.Kavanagh@heartofengland.nhs.uk to book a place or Rachael.Boddy@heartofengland.nhs.uk, lead consultant for the course if you have a query.
