The main unit is the Wolverhampton Eye Infirmary (now housed at |New Cross Hospital) and services Wolverhampton and adjacent populations.  Ophthalmic services also take place at Walsall Manor Hospitals NHS Trust, Cannock Eye Centre, Cannock Chase Hospital and Stafford Hospital (Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust).  Subspecialty experience is offered in vitreo-retinal surgery, medical retina, ocular motility, paediatric ophthalmology, glaucoma, cornea and external eye disease and oculoplastic surgery. The unit also houses the region’s cataract and vitreo-retinal surgery simulator.

This is a specialised  Paediatric hospital, providing ophthalmology services both to local residents,  tertiary referrals from the West Midlands Region and a series of national services including  retinoblastoma.  There are  day and inpatient beds available, with the great majority of care as day case.  Practically all tertiary level  Paediatric ophthalmology surgery is undertaken at BCH.  There are several multidisciplinary teams that BCH eye department either run or contribute to.
