Dental Foundation Training Schemes

Seven schemes are at present in operation. Six schemes commence in September of each year. The trainees attend a series of study days at one of the following centres:

City Hospital. The Training Programme Director is Mr Rob Richardson. Postgraduate Centre, Birmingham Dental Hospital, Mill Pool Way, Edgbaston, B5 7EG

University Hospital Coventry. The Training Programme Director is Dr Peter Thornley Postgraduate Centre, Clinical Sciences Building, Walsgrave Hospital, Clifford Bridge Road, Coventry CV2 2DX 

Stafford District General Hospital. The Training Programme Director is Dr Shaam Shamsi. Mid-Staffordshire Postgraduate Medical Centre, Staffordshire General Hospital, Weston Road, Stafford ST16 3SA.

Worcestershire Royal Hospital. The Training Programme Director is Marie--Claire Parsons, The Charles Hastings Education Centre, Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Charles Hastings Way, Worcester WR5 1DD.

Princess Royal Hospital Telford. The Training Programme Director is Dr Colin Sinha Telford Postgraduate Medical Centre, Princess Royal Hospital, Apley Castle, Telford. TF1

Solihull Hospital. The Training Programme Director is Dr Kully Shoker, Solihull Education Centre, Solihull Hospital, Lode Lane, Solihull, B91 2JL.

Dental Foundation Training in the Salaried Primary Dental Care Service

The Salaried Primary Dental Care Services (SPDCS) within the West Midlands advertise for Dental Foundation Trainees (DFT) when posts are approved and vacancies occur. DFT's are attached to a senior clinician in the SPDCS and will undertake clinical work in one or more community clinics as well as other settings in the community, such as schools or residential homes. The DFT will also attend the General Dental Practice study day scheme alongside their colleagues in general practice. In addition they will participate in training and clinical attachments within their Trust and possibly within other SPDCSs in the region.
