GP GP VTS/Foundation Year Rotations

Four month training placements are available for the GP VTS trainees and Foundation year 2 trainees as part of their training scheme. Public health placements provide a great opportunity for trainees to understand how PCTs and HPU work. The trainees usually get involved in various projects in the PCTs providing them an immense experience of audit, research and data handling. The trainees also shadow various public health practitioners and community health care practitioners to understand the provision of health care in community. All trainees are invited to an induction day at the start of their placements.

“I really enjoyed my public health rotation at South Staffordshire PCT. During my placement I shadowed many professionals within the PCT community, completed an audit, a PCT report based on national data and contributed to PCT mass vaccination planning. I have improved upon my organisational, analytical, presentation and IT skills, as well as my ability to constantly adapt to evolving situations. Most importantly, I have gained valuable insight into the role of general practice in the wider context of both the PCT and the UK as a whole, which I feel will make me practice much more effectively once I am a fully qualified General Practitioner”.
