Training Programme

Curriculum

You will develop a timetable of activity, which will encompass both your training needs and the service requirement of the Trust. Service commitment can be expected to be 60-80%. Trainees will have time available to participate in research/audit projects as part of their training. Trainees are encouraged to attend National Training days (targeted towards FRCPath examination in Immunology) organised by Association of Clinical Pathologists (ACP).

Assessments

Assessment arrangements are currently being finalised by the RCPath, and trainees will be expected to undertake workplace-based assessment (WBA) throughout the entire duration of their training. The other major summative assessments are FRCPath Part one and two occurring in end of Year two and Years four and five respectively. Acquisition of FRCPath is required for the eventual award of the CCT. Trainees will undergo an Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP) and this will be assessed using WBA, summative assessments, correctly maintained and updated log-book, portfolio, appraisals and educational supervisors report.

The trainee will have a formative/supportive appraisal at least twice a year, this should enable the planning of forthcoming educational needs.
