In addition to teaching which takes place during clinical activities, there is a formal teaching programme which takes place on a fortnightly basis from 0830 to 1000 in the Education Centre. The content of this programme is based on the ISCP curriculum and includes formal presentations, viva practice sessions and discussion of clinical scenarios. The Programme is led by Mr Jawaheer.
There is a weekly programme of Hospital Grand Rounds where Medical Paediatric topics are presented and discussed.
There is a formal Regional Teaching Programme for Surgical and Paediatric Trainees.
There is an on-site Education Centre with excellent facilities and a Clinical Skills Centre. There are two laparoscopic trainers within the Department.
There is a monthly Journal Club meeting.
SpR/StRs are expected to attend the mandatory Training Days organised by the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons.
