A Career in Diabetes & Endocrinology
Diabetes & Endocrinology is a very challenging specialty as the disorders are quite rare and not much exposure is usually achieved during foundation or core medical training. So advice and referral services are much valued.
It is a very mathematical Specialty. There are lots of results to interpret; more interestingly the equivocal results are more challenging as there could be lots of physiological or pathological confounding factors.
The lack of procedures is an advantage – with the possibility of expanding into community service.
Diabetes prevalence is increasing rapidly – lots of scope for inpatient diabetes and novel models of car.
Diabetes & Endocrinology is one of the Specialties that is still well aligned to general medicine – most patients do not have specific symptoms for the endocrine system and usually present with generic symptoms , therefore the need to keep looking out for other general medical diagnosis also.
