Welcome to West Midlands GP Education
Welcome to one of the largest Deaneries in the UK. Looking after 900 GP trainees we divide into five areas or programmes with an Area Programme Director covering each patch. The main thrust of our purpose is one of training the future workforce in relation to the health needs and future demands of the West Midlands. We also engage in the improvement in the quality of Primary Care in the West Midlands including commissioning, continuing professional development and revalidation.
The website is divided in sections from the young trainee through to trainers and established GPs. You will find links to the various area programmes websites within these sections. Please look at the FAQs section for training practices and trainees to find the answer to many questions about training.
Dr Martin Wilkinson
Director of Postgraduate General Practice Education
Welcome to the Postgraduate School of General Practice

The School is responsible for speciality training of doctors for a career in General Practice. As well as looking after their training in hospitals and in 353 practices throughout the West Midlands, we provide training and support to 500 GP trainers and 60 GP Training Programme Directors. We have five programmes: Black Country, Birmingham and Solihull, Coventry and Warwick, Herefordshire and Worcestershire and Shropshire and Staffordshire. Our Trainees play an important role, both within the Deanery and nationally, in shaping the future of GP Education; by developing the curriculum for general practice training and by being part of the Leadership of the new NHS.
