All GPs and GP trainees need to be registered with NHS England Area Team Medical Performers List.  (This does not apply to Foundation Doctors).  Only GP registrars on the  Performers List are authorised to work in Primary Care. Once an application has been submitted you are permitted to work up to 2 months whilst the application is being processed.  Application process can take 3 months to process, we strongly advise you apply 3-4 months before any GP posts.

Trainees are advised to download the attached Primary Medical Performers Lists frequently asked questions FAQs (below) for further advice. Please contact your NHS England Area Team for the application form and further details. Your training practice should be able to advise you on the appropriate contact in your NHS England Area Team office.

Disclosure and Barring Service

Guidance for Disclosure and Barring Service for GP trainees is HERE. Please note:

  • Trainees need an enhanced DSB checks as a condition of employment.
  • Trainees are not permitted to request enhanced checks on themselves
  • The employer is responsible if they are not undertaken correctly
  • Training practices need to liaise with their prospective trainee well ahead of the start date, and as an employer undertake the process on their behalf. The practice may contract with an umbrella organisation or undertake it themselves.
  • Any cost taken from the trainee first months salary. The cost is borne by the employee (currently £44) and is now 'portable' for an additional £13 annual charge making it a much simpler process as it can just be updated for any subsequent job applications.
