Are you:

  • Concerned about a specific area of practice that needs updating
  • Planning a change of direction in your career
  • Planning or returning from a career break
  • Feeling that you need a refresher and would like back to basics type courses
  • Feeling that you would benefit from some phantom head hands-on supervised sessions

If so, then this section is for you!!!

Dentists in Difficulty

I will provide support for practitioners who have identified a learning need in a specific area of practice or who feel they just need a reminder of the basics of clinical practice. They may be taking a career break, trying to get into NHS practice, making a career move or working but feel they need an update in a particular area.

There are several courses which may be suitable outlined below. Priority will be given to dentists with full GDC registration, KITS members and those who have a performer number with a PCT. I will be happy to provide confidential advice to individuals who contact me by phone, e-mail or letter.

The Keeping in Touch Scheme

The KITS Scheme is aimed at anyone who is on, or contemplating, a career break for any reason.

This may include

  • Illness
  • Maternity leave
  • Travel
  • Career change
  • Family commitments
  • Flexible retirement

I will provide support and advice for these people whilst on their break, on return to clinical practice and after their return.

Benefits of the scheme

Membership of the KITS scheme entitles you to attend Deanery Section 63 courses. I will be available to provide support and advice and to help you to meet the requirements of your personal development plan. In this booklet we have arranged some courses to meet your CPD requirements.

Membership of the KITS scheme runs from April and must be renewed each April so that we have a clear idea of movement within the workforce.

GDC Guidelines on CPD for dentists

In November 2006, the General Dental Council produced and circulated updated guidance on CPD which has identified three compulsory areas of CPD as part of the overall 75 hour minimum verifiable CPD requirement in each cycle. It contains useful advice on what should happen if you leave the register and subsequently rejoin. (www.gdc-uk.org)
